Like many NBA teams, the Los Angeles Lakers have long coveted Lauri Markkanen of the Utah Jazz.

But making that happen will require them to part ways with a number of their favorite players.

Over at Bleacher Report, Andy Bailey put together a potential trade that would land Markkanen in Los Angeles.

It would be a big trade with multiple moving pieces, and it could break the hearts of many Lakers fans.

In this hypothetical deal, the Utah Jazz would receive Terry Rozier, Rui Hachimura, Gabe Vincent, Dalton Knecht, a 2026 first-round pick from L.A., a 2031 first-round pick from L.A., and a 2031 first-round pick from the Miami Heat.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers would get Markkanen while the Miami Heat would receive Austin Reaves and Svi Mykhailiuk.

“They’d have to replenish their 2025-26 rotation with some minimum signings, but this is a trade that could vault the Lakers onto the contenders’ tier right away, while also giving them a one-two punch to rely on beyond LeBron James’ retirement. Markkanen is undoubtedly the best individual player in this deal. He’s a near-perfect fit alongside the ball-dominant Luka (and LeBron, for that matter). As a floor spacer flanking Luka’s pick-and-rolls with other bigs, the screener in those actions himself, a cutter or transition finisher, Markkanen would feast on defenses compromised by Luka,” Bailey wrote.

Getting Markkanen could greatly help the Lakers, but it would cost them dearly.

Hachimura has been a huge part of the Lakers lately, and Vincent has shown off some clutch skills.

Knecht has had less time to shine, but he is seen as one of the most promising young players in the league.

As for Reaves, he is the team’s third option and a fan favorite.

On top of all that, losing their draft pick would hurt the Lakers a lot.

The Lakers would only make this move if they were sure that Markkanen could change their fate and immediately make them Western Conference favorites.

They aren’t currently pursuing a move like this, but if they aren’t doing great at the trade deadline in February, they may do something this drastic.
