The No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs had a lot riding on their matchup vs. the No. 15 Tennessee Volunteers. Tennessee kicked off the Bulldogs’ stacked SEC schedule, and with how sluggish the Bulldogs’ offense looked against Austin Peay, some doubted if Georgia could win.
It was a marathon of a game, but Georgia ended up winning 44-41 in overtime. The Bulldogs came back from down 21-7 in the first quarter and 38-30 in the middle of the fourth, with Gunner Stockton firing a 38-yard touchdown to London Humphreys and a two-point conversion to Zachariah Branch to tie it 38-38.
Tennessee then marched down the field to kick a field goal, but the kicker missed it wide, sending the game into overtime. In overtime, the Volunteers kicked a field goal, but Georgia’s Josh McCray was able to punch it into the end zone to win the game 44-41.
There were several standout performances from the game. Gunner Stockton was dazzling, proving that he can live up to the moment. He completed 23 of his 31 passes for 304 yards and three total touchdowns.
On the defensive side, there were a lot of breakdowns, but KJ Bolden and Joenel Aguero picked off errant passes from Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar.
