This week, Chiefs Wire’s Ed Easton Jr. spoke with Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy’s mother, Nicky Jones, executive director of The Worthy 1’s, about the foundation’s upcoming partnership with The Single Mom KC Awareness Walk on Saturday, October 18th.
A standout moment from Worthy’s impressive rookie season took place on Week 5 of last season. The viral clip included Jones receiving a special gift from her son during the game.
“So my birthday is always on a game day. I always attend the game on or near my birthday. So that day just happened to be on that game. I never want anything for my birthday,” said Jones, “We were just talking, but I was like, say, if you get a touchdown, let me have the ball, but I wasn’t thinking of it like the way it came out. I was literally just picturing myself as mom at one of his games.”

During the October’ Monday Night Football’ game last season against the New Orleans Saints, Worthy handed the ball to Jones in the stands after scoring a 3-yard touchdown run.

“I didn’t know if he was scoring. I think he got down in the fourth quarter. But I also told him Don’t ever pressure yourself.’ So if you score, you score. If you don’t, I’m just happy to be here in this moment. I’m wearing your jersey at the Chiefs’ (Arrowhead) Stadium on my birthday,” said Jones. “That’s enough, but then he scored, and I could see his smile when he bounced up. It was like him when he was little – a big smile and so proud. It just made me happy.”
