CANTON, Ohio, Dec. 4 — The Anderson [Cincinnati, OH] Raptors and the Avon [OH] Eagles will meet Thursday night at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium to decide Ohio’s OHSAA Division II state championship in high school football.
The Raptors enter the game with an unblemished 14-0 record while Avon has compiled a 13-1 ledger in defense of their 2024 state championship. These two teams also met in last year’s finale with Avon winning, 20-13.
Last year, both teams entered the game 15-0, meaning that Anderson is 29-1 in its last 30 games with the only loss coming to Avon. But this time, Avon enters the game with a loss, and Anderson is a slight favorite based on most national rankings heading into this year’s title tilt.
The game will kick off at 7 p.m. EST local.

|| SECOND QUARTER ||
End of second quarter: Avon 27, Anderson 7
Anderson finally showed a little life, but Avon was able to drive down and extend the lead back to three scores again. This is a deep hole to climb out of against a defense like the one Avon has, and you get the feel that this might already be out of reach. But, we’ll see how things unfold in the second half, and if Anderson can get some stops and maybe force the Eagles into making a few mistakes, then they’ve got the offense to score quickly and get back in this thing.

AVON 27, ANDERSON 7
Elder strikes again. This time he finds Grant Barr, and that’s four different receivers who have found the end zone on the opposite end of Elder’s throws. That’s tough to defend when you’ve got that many guys you can trust to catch the ball.
Blake Elder to Grant Barr for 37 yards. Kick is aborted. Avon leads Cincinnati Anderson, 27-7 with 2:19 left in the first half. @PaFootballNews#BeyondTheKeystone@YappiFootballpic.twitter.com/S3SAkcY6tG

AVON 21, ANDERSON 7
Owen Scalf finally gets Anderson on the board with a short quarterback keeper. That felt like a drive where Anderson HAD to score to get back in this thing and give their defense a rest. Mission accomplished for now.
Anderson has life! The Raptors convert on 4th down and then Owen Scalf keeps it and scores to make it 21-7 Avon with 5:18 left in the second quarter. #locofballpic.twitter.com/8O2HcuWA3r
