Get ready for a late Friday night.
The start of the Orioles’ originally scheduled 7:08 p.m. game against the Los Angeles Angels has been delayed to 8:15 p.m. because of inclement weather.
Weather forecasts show the potential for rain throughout the night in Baltimore. Rain is expected throughout the weekend in Charm City and could make it difficult for the Orioles and Angels to finish their three-game series — their final against each other this season.
It’s been a rainy season for the Orioles — both in the atmosphere and on the field with a 27-40 record entering Friday. This marks the Orioles’ fifth delay this season. If Friday’s game is postponed, it would be their sixth this season. The Orioles have played three doubleheaders and gone 1-5 in those games.
If they can’t complete the game Friday, which is streaming exclusively on Apple TV+, they’d likely finish it Saturday. All three games must be played this weekend before the Orioles head to Tampa, Florida, on Monday for the start of a seven-game road trip.
The Angels (33-34) visited Baltimore as winners of seven of their past 10 games. The clubs last played in May, the weekend before manager Brandon Hyde was fired, when the Orioles won two of three games. Baltimore got its season back on track earlier this month with a six-game winning streak, but the Orioles have lost each of their past two series against the Athletics and Detroit Tigers.
Friday’s pitching matchup is between two of the worst starters in MLB: Los Angeles’ Jack Kochanowicz (3-7, 5.61 ERA) and Baltimore’s Charlie Morton (2-7, 6.59 ERA). Morton got his season back on track in May after an awful April, but his start in Sacramento last weekend was one of his worst this season as he allowed four runs in 2 1/3 innings.
The Orioles’ lineup doesn’t include Colton Cowser and Jordan Westburg as the former is out after crashing into the center field wall in Thursday’s loss and the latter is getting a rest day. This week was the first time the two stars shared the lineup since the opening series of the season.
