Jason Heyward is taking baby steps toward a return.
The 35-year-old veteran on Saturday served as the DH for the second day in Triple-A El Paso’s 8-0 win at Albuquerque, going 1-for-4.
Heyward scored a run but struck out twice and is 1-for-8 with four strikeouts through his first two games.
Heyward is rehabbing an oblique injury. He’s on the injured list for the second time this year after missing 10 days in April with knee inflammation.
Left fielder Yonathan Perlaza (.811 OPS) went 2-for-4 with his sixth homer, three RBIs and two runs scored.
Center fielder Forrest Wall (.714 OPS) drove in two runs on two hits, including a double.
Right-hander Raul Brito (3-2, 7.71 ERA) struck out two over two scoreless innings for the win in relief after left-hander Miguel Cienfuegos (5.40 EA) opened the game with three shutout innings.
El Paso is 35-33.
