Detroit Tigers right fielder Kerry Carpenter continues to nurse a mild hamstring issue, following a scratch from the lineup on June 4. Carpenter’s hamstring troubles started in February of last year when he strained his left hamstring in spring training. Carpenter told reports Sunday morning — ahead of the series finale with the Cincinnati Reds — there’s as much of a mental factor as a physical one. The gap in his speed was on display Friday night against the Reds when he attempted to run home from second base on a Colt Keith single and was thrown out while laboring home.
