Tigers’ new pitcher shines in first bullpen outing

Detroit Tigers

As the Detroit Tigers approach the midpoint of the season, preparing a postseason-caliber bullpen is becoming a necessity. The Tigers have dealt with plenty of injury and inconsistency from their relievers to this point and are giving some new names opportunities to help them win games. One of those is right-handed pitcher Carlos Hernández, who was claimed off waivers from the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday. The 28-year-old spent five seasons with AL Central foe Kansas City Royals before making 25 appearances with the Phillies this season and getting designated for assignment with a 5.26 ERA in 25 2/3 innings.
