He fashioned a 16-year major-league career, largely as a backup infielder/defensive specialist, with eight different teams. John McDonald packed plenty into his lengthy playing career, to the point where he figured he might be done with baseball after retiring from the playing field in 2014. McDonald, the East Lyme product, is in his 11th year with the Cleveland Guardians organization, currently as the team’s minor league field coordinator.
