Maybe Leo De Vries is coming out of his funk.
The 18-year-old shortstop walked off high Single-A Fort Wayne’s 2-1 win over Great Lakes with a 106 mph single off the wall, his second hit of the game.
Officially, De Vries’ ninth-inning hit went down as a single. He finished 2-for-3 with the RBI and a walk to lift his batting line to .245/.355/.391 in 62 games with the TinCaps.
De Vries has five homers, 33 RBIs and six steals.
He hit .306/.378/.625 in April, .232/.319/.280 in May and is hitting .203/.370/.291 through 22 games in June.
First baseman Jack Costello (.658 OPS) went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Designated hitter Sean Barnett (.740 OPS) went 1-for-2 with a walk.
Right-hander Eric Yost (2.36 ERA) struck out five and allowed one run on four this and four walks in 5⅔ inning in the start.
Left-hander Fernando Sanchez (2.56 ERA) threw 2 ⅓ scoreless innings and right-hander Garrett Hawkins (6-1, 1.97 ERA) struck out a batter in a scoreless ninth.
