‘Baltimorons’ film star to throw opening pitch at Orioles game

Michael Strassner, star of the upcoming “The Baltimorons” film set in the city, will throw the opening pitch during the Sept. 10 Orioles home game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the team confirmed.

“The Baltimorons” is a semiautobiographical film that Strassner cowrote with the director, mumblecore legend Jay Duplass, known for his offbeat and naturalistic comedy films. The story is a day-in-the-life comedy that showcases many areas in Baltimore, including Fells Point, the Washington Monument in Mount Vernon, the 34th Street holiday displays in Hampden and the still-intact Francis Scott Key Bridge.

Strassner, whose previous roles include bit parts on “Parks and Recreation” and “Black-ish,” is a Baltimore native who now lives in Los Angeles — though he plans to return next month in time for the Baltimore debut of the movie. This homecoming trip lined up with the upcoming Orioles game at 6:35 p.m. at Camden Yards.

Earlier this summer, Strassner told The Baltimore Sun that he remains a fervent fan of Baltimore sports teams. He said he dreamed of one day throwing out the opening pitch at an Orioles game and flipping the coin before a home game of the Ravens.

When asked if he’s heard back from the Ravens, Strassner quipped, “No, but I’m still hoping.”

“The Baltimorons” is scheduled for a limited release to movie theaters nationwide Sept. 5. It will premiere locally at Baltimore’s Senator Theatre on Sept. 10.
