Through the 2024-25 season, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a total of 506 players suit up for them, going back to their days in Minneapolis. Some were forgettable, some were serviceable, some were good and a select few were flat-out legendary.
As the Lakers approach their 80th season of existence (they were founded back in 1946 as the Detroit Gems in the National Basketball League), LeBron Wire is taking a look at each player who has worn their jersey, whether it has been a purple and gold one or the ones they donned back in the Midwest during their early years.
Ben McLemore, a 6-foot-3 wing, was the No. 7 overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft. Within a couple of years, he became a fairly reliable offensive spark plug and a decent outside shooter who mostly came off the bench.
Late in the 2020-21 season, the Houston Rockets waived him and the Lakers picked him up. He ended up playing in 21 games with the Lakers the rest of the year and averaged eight points a game in 17.5 minutes a game while shooting 36.8% from 3-point range.
McLemore spent the following season with the Portland Trail Blazers and averaged 10.2 points in 20.1 minutes per game. He would then go on to play pro basketball for teams based in China, Greece, Spain and Turkey.
