Spanish press reveal obstacles for Los Blancos in overturning decision
Real Madrid Face Uphill Battle in Appeal Over Huijsen Red Card
A Spanish report’s cast doubt on Real Madrid’s chances of successfully appealing the red card shown to Dean Huijsen during the 2 – 1 win over Real Sociedad on Saturday.
The 18 year old defender was sent off in the 32 minute after direct dismissal.
Madrid’s frustration with refereeing
Real Madrid believe Huijsen’s foul deserved only yellow card. According to club channel Real Madrid TV, the board’s preparing full dossier of refereeing mistakes from last season and this campaign to present to FIFA.
Coach Xabi Alonso also insisted after the match that the decision was excessive.

Marca vs Mundo Deportivo views
Marca reported that the club will present video evidence in its appeal to cancel the red card. However Mundo Deportivo stressed that chances of success are “minimal” citing Article 27 of refereeing regulations.
The rule states that referee’s signed match report is valid unless video proves “clear & serious error”

Even if accepted, the sanction can only be annulled (not downgraded to a yellow). Madrid could take the case first to the Appeals Committee and then to Spain’s Sports Court though experts see little hope of positive outcome.
