ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky was impressed with the play of quarterback Drake Maye during the team’s Week 2 win over the Miami Dolphins. He even went as far as calling it the second-year quarterback’s best NFL performance of his career.
Maye went 19-of-23 passing in the game for 230 yards and two touchdowns, along with racking up 10 carries for 31 yards and one touchdown. He was a big reason why the Patriots were able to secure their first win in Miami since 2019. The quarterback was poised in the pocket as a passer, and he did a solid job of running with the football as well.
“I would tell you that I thought this was the best game of his as a professional,” said ESPN analyst and former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky, when appearing on The Pat McAfee Show. “I thought, when it comes to some of the stuff Drake Maye did, now a little bit is a credit to Josh McDaniels, I thought they moved them a lot more. He’s such a big-time athlete. They moved him so the athleticism was a bigger part of the game and his game.”
Maye did a much better job of moving around in the pocket and making quicker decisions. He was able to buy himself time and make key throws throughout the game. This was not only a better game for him, but also for Josh McDaniels.
The offense was in sync, and Maye was the big-time beneficiary.
