Jalen Ramsey’s disregard for meetings and practices during his time with the Miami Dolphins “became a drain on team morale,” eventually leading to the trade that sent him to the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques.
According to the report, Ramsey and wide receiver Tyreek Hill were repeat offenders when it came to the Dolphins’ tardiness issue and both “received numerous fines throughout the season.”
“Ramsey’s behavior, meanwhile, became a drain on team morale, according to multiple sources, including current and former players, who said his actions varied from being late to team activities to outright leaving practice.”
The report isn’t groundbreaking as Ramsey’s behavior has been hinted at by many in the building in Miami. Head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters in January that he was hunting for an answer to the team’s discipline issues because fining players “didn’t particularly move the needle” in 2024.
Tight end Tanner Conner said the Dolphins solved that issue by getting “some players out who might have not been as respectful.”
Ramsey stood out as the most obvious suspect after the Dolphins announced in April that trading the cornerback was “in the best interest of all parties,” despite it meaning more than $35 million in dead cap charges for the team across the 2025 and 2026 seasons. A cryptic post on Ramsey’s social media suggested he was ready to get away from people who are “okay with mediocre.” After joining the Steelers, he said he was happy to be on a team “where there’s a lot of respect for the head coach.”
Earlier this week, McDaniel told reporters that the team’s tardiness issue is no more and he hasn’t had to fine anybody with the exception of “maybe one alarm clock issue in Week 2 of camp.”
But with the Dolphins now 0-2 on the year, the personnel changes that led to what the team insists is a much healthier culture, isn’t going to earn McDaniel and co. a round of applause from anyone unless the wins start rolling around.
