Ravens vs. Lions: Instant analysis of Baltimore's 38-30 loss on MNF in Week 3

Darkness fell on Baltimore tonight as the Ravens (1-2) face a few days of self-reflection on defense and along the offensive line. Detroit rushed for 224 yards and sacked Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson seven times in the Lions‘ 38-30 win over the Ravens in Week 3 on ESPN’s Monday Night Football.

A frustrated Derrick Henry fumbled for the third time in as many games and was held to just 50 yards. One rushing touchdown on 12 carries as the Lions had the football for seven more minutes, as they ran the football 38 times between Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery.

The two teams last met in 2023, when the Ravens dominated the Lions 38-6 at M&T Bank Stadium. The tables were turned on Monday night, and Zach Orr’s defense surrendered 426 yards in front of a raucous home crowd. Baltimore will start preparation for Kansas City on Sunday, as both teams look to avoid a 1-3 start in the loaded AFC.

Pass rush comparison

At one point, with 2:00 left in the third quarter, the Ravens’ pass rush group had zero sacks on the night and five quarterback hits. Detroit harassed Lamar Jackson all night and had seven sacks and seven QB hits.

Lions rushing attack

Dan Campbell came in with the plan of controlling the football and time of possession, allowing his offense to take the air out of the Ravens’ explosive offense. Early on, Detroit had 12 yards on its first seven carries, but continued to pound the ball, and was up to 152 yards rushing at the start of the fourth quarter following a 72-yard run by David Montgomery. Overall, Montgomery had 12 carries for 152 yards (12.6 avg), two touchdowns, and plenty of physical running. Gibbs had 67 rushing yards, a touchdown, and five receptions.

This is the 11th game in which both Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery have scored a touchdown.
