The biggest storyline of the Cowboys’ Week 4 showdown with the Packers has reached fever pitch in a hurry. Micah Parsons has weighed in on his return to Dallas, saying he has mixed feelings about facing his ex-teammates. But Parsons isn’t the only one gearing up for a revenge game; Kenny Clark admits he’ll be “amped up” a little more than usual at the prospect of blowing up Jordan Love minus a red practice jersey. Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer, meanwhile, cautions that there will be 10 other Packers to contend with on defense, and Jerry Jones says the club will be treating this like any other game… with no pregame tribute for Parsons.
So can the Cowboys beat Green Bay? Schotty says yes, even without starters CeeDee Lamb and Tyler Booker in the lineup. (History may suggest otherwise, at least when it comes to Lamb.) The injury report will have plenty to say about the outcome, to be sure, but the Cowboys did get a key piece back on the practice field Wednesday in DaRon Bland.
In other Cowboys news, the current state of the team has some thinking about trades, but whether that means buying or selling may depend on your projection for the next 14 games. Dallas has lost a promising practice squadder, a handful of Cowboys greats- including Jason Witten- have taken a step toward Canton, and if you think Dak Prescott is to blame for the team’s rough start, you’re not paying attention to the right stats.
The Packers look like they’ll be without a big piece of their pass-protection package, and they’ve cut ties with former Super Bowl hero Mecole Hardman. But the top story in Green Bay is also Micah Parsons: he says he’s fine with no tribute, but he believes there are some “hard feelings” in Dallas over his departure. He’ll try to treat it like any other game, he says, even as his new teammates are dealing with an extra-motivated Kenny Clark.
Around the league, Giants head coach Brian Daboll is taking responsibility for the benching of Russell Wilson, and the Eagles will be without one of their most feared defenders for an extended period of time. Tom Brady, who’s been involved in a controversy or two before, is now claiming that the uproar over his dual roles of broadcaster and part-time team owner is coming only from people who are “paranoid and distrustful.” Jerry Jones is nowhere to be found in a recent vote of the NFL’s best front offices, and teams are allegedly trying a sneaky (and illegal) new tactic to combat Philadelphia’s “tush push.” But this trend could be a real boost to those looking to outlaw the short-yardage scrums.
