‘Take away the right hand’: Brian McIntyre explains game plan for Terence Crawford to beat Canelo Alvarez

Brian McIntyre said Terence Crawford executed everything they prepared him to do.

Trainer Brian ‘Bomac’ McIntyre spoke to Fight Hub TV during Terence Crawford’s celebratory parade in Omaha about the result of the fight, Crawford going undisputed again, and where they could potentially go from here as they look forward. Here’s some of what he had to say below.

McIntyre on what the game plan was for Crawford against Canelo

“Just keep turning him, keep turning him, keep him on the inside. Southpaws, or if you fighting a southpaw, or if you fight in a southpaw stance, you always want to keep them on the inside. Take away the right hand, your left hand will travel a shorter distance than his right hand ‘cause his right hand got to come across his body, your left hand goes straight down the pipe. Real easy.

“Exactly everything we worked on in camp, he did it. Punch selection, catch and release, everything…(Crawford) had great conditioning, worked with guys in UFC…so that’s one thing I was concerned about going into the fight, but I told them guys ‘make sure he can absorb that power.’ He absorbed it very well.”

On how he feels to see Crawford accomplish yet another goal

“I’m definitely happy for him. He made history the second time, they can’t take it away from him neither. [This one means more than the other undisputed titles], it gives us the opportunity as a team to go into the Hall of Fame. Instead of a fighter going in there, instead of a coach going in there, it gives us a better chance at going in there as a team.”

On whether he thinks Crawford should retire on this win

“Well, you know what, he made it look so easy — sh-t — got two, three more in him, you know what I’m saying? Training camp was probably harder…If he wants to (move to 160 to try for a fifth division) if he wants to challenge himself, yeah, I don’t mind.”
