Penn State football recruiting tracker: Who’s decommitted after James Franklin’s firing?

New England Patriots

The fallout from James Franklin’s firing from Penn State transcends not only the Nittany Lions‘ play on the field, but more importantly for the future, their recruiting landscape.

Following the team’s loss to UCLA, four-star in-state receiver Khalil Taylor announced that he was decommitting from the Nittany Lions.

He would not be alone. Below are the latest 2026 and 2027 prospects to decommit from Penn State following the program’s three-game skid and Franklin’s dismissal.

Gabe Jenkins: 4-star LB, class of 2027

Jenkins was the first player to decommit from Penn State following the Franklin news. News of his decommitment came not even 20 minutes after it was announced that Franklin had been fired.

Jenkins had not been committed to the Nittany Lions for any substantial period, having announced his decision on August 18.

A 6-foot-0, 187-pounder out of Imani Christian Academy in Pittsburgh, 247Sports ranks him as the No. 130 player and No. 11 safety in the 2027 class.

Layton Von Brandt: 4-star OT, class of 2027

Another decommitment shortly after the news broke, Van Brandt had been committed to Penn State since last November.

Delaware’s No. 1 player in the 2027 class out of Appoquinimink in Middletown, a 6-foot-6, 270-pounder, ranks as the No. 65 player in the class and No. 8 offensive tackle.
