Coming into today, the Raiders had just one player who was Questionable for the game. That was punter AJ Cole. He is active for the game, which means he’ll play. But it doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll punt.
You see, also active for the game is Brad Robbins, who they signed as a contingency plan in case Cole couldn’t go. Cole is also the holder, so it’s possible they will have him doing only holding and Robbins punting. It isn’t ideal to have two punters active for the game, but that’s the situation the Raiders find themselves in.
Brock Bowers is also inactive. He was ruled OUT on the team’s final injury report. The All Pro has been dealing with a knee injury for a few weeks.
They did get a couple guys back this week who had missed last week including Michael Mayer whose presence will be vital not just as the number one tight end with Bowers out, but for his duties as the right flank protector on punts and field goals. The Raiders had allowed a blocked field goal that cost them a game and a blocked punt that led to a TD and injured AJ Cole. So, Mayer’s return is a big deal.
UPDATE: AJ Cole has been punting during pregame and it looks like he’s good to go. Obviously we won’t know for absolute sure until he takes the field in the game, but as of now it looks likely he will punt for the Raiders today.
