The Buffalo Bills opened the 2025 season looking like legitimate contenders with Josh Allen playing at an elite level. The offense appeared balanced and capable of challenging any defense in the league.

That momentum has since stalled following a 30-13 loss to the Miami Dolphins, a defeat that exposed recurring problems Buffalo has failed to resolve. The downfield passing attack has disappeared in recent weeks, leaving the receiving group unable to generate consistent production. Sean McDermott’s recent comments about still searching for the right combinations at wide receiver raised questions about the team’s offensive direction this late in the season.

“Sean McDermott says the Bills are still trying to find their best ‘combinations’ at WR. It’s Week 11,” Alex Brasky posted on X.

Buffalo’s inability to settle on a receiving rotation in Week 11 reflects poorly on a franchise with postseason aspirations. Against Miami, leading receivers Khalil Shakir and Keon Coleman combined for just 6.1 yards per target.

Shakir averaged 6.4 yards while Coleman managed 5.75 yards per reception. Observers noted a clear absence of open targets downfield throughout the contest.

Even during more productive offensive showings like the Week 9 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo relied heavily on its tight end group. That position accounted for 59.3% of Allen’s total passing yardage in that game, highlighting the lack of balance in the passing attack.

The regression appears tied to personnel decisions made over the past two offseasons. Buffalo released Cole Beasley and traded Stefon Diggs before selecting Keon Coleman in the draft.

Coleman’s skill set differs significantly from the receivers who previously succeeded alongside Allen. The result has been a consistent lack of separation that forces Allen to extend plays under pressure.

Buffalo remains in playoff contention despite these struggles, currently sitting second in their division. Upcoming matchups against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Houston Texans, and Pittsburgh Steelers will be critical in shaping their postseason positioning.
