Tennessee and new signee Legend Bey could be headed towards a quick breakup

Atlanta Braves

The Tennessee Volunteers put together one of the nation’s top recruiting classes, with the early signing period starting on December 3.

The Vols put together an impressive haul of talent, inking 28 players in total. They managed to get the signatures of their top two prospects in five stars Faizon Brandon and Tristen Keys, so they avoided any disasters with their most prized recruits. They inked 5 On3/Rivals industry rated top 100 players. They pulled off three defensive linemen pickups on Wednesday and got highly coveted Texas WR Legend Bey to flip his pledge back to Tennessee.

But will that pledge stand? It’s starting to look like it won’t.

The Vol Twitterverse went ablaze on Wednesday afternoon with rumors and a photo of a supposedly deleted tweet by Bey saying he was not going to go to the school that his mother and brother want him to.

According to 247 Sports, it appears as though Bey does not want to go through with his mother’s desires and wants to go to Ohio State, even after the departure of OC/WR coach Brian Hartline to USF. Per Mike Roach of 247, Bey is seeking to get out of his commitment to Tennessee and go to Ohio State. He apparently turns 18 in a matter of weeks, so that decision will be up to him at that point.

If that’s all true, then I say godspeed, Legend, and go have a great career at Ohio State. I think this should be academic for Tennessee to let him out, and it seems per Roach like that would be the case.

Bey is signed with Tennessee, as he appears among Tennessee’s list of signees on their website.

It’s a tough loss, as he’s an absolute gamebreaker and would have been a matchup nightmare for teams, but that’s the way recruiting goes. Win some lose some. And fortunately, the Vols won a lot more on Wednesday than they lost.
