Blue Jays fall by one to Mandan, Bakalar makes 30 saves

Dec. 5—JAMESTOWN — Only one skater was able to get the puck past Blue Jay goalie Ady Bakalar on Friday evening.

Unfortunately the puck got by her one too many times.



Afton Leingang led Mandan to a 3-2 win over Bakalar and the Jamestown High School girls hockey team. The loss puts the Blue Jays at 0-2-1 in the standings. Jamestown will be back on the ice on Dec. 12 at West Fargo Sports Arena. The Blue Jays are slated to take on West Fargo at 7 p.m.

Leingang scored all three of Mandan’s goals on Friday. Jamestown’s Addy Gerhardt and Anna Lunde were responsible for netting the pair of Blue Jay scores.

Bakalar made 30 saves off 33 shots faced. As a team, the Blue Jays put 21 shots on goal.

Tim Ranum has his first win as the Blue Jay boys basketball head coach.

Ranum helped to guide the Jays to a 70-66 win over Grand Forks Central in the team’s season opener Friday. Final stats were not available when The Jamestown Sun went to press. Jamestown will be back in action on Dec. 12 hosting Fargo South. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.

Success extended across programs on Friday.

The Blue Jay girls basketball team opened up the season with a huge 51 point win over Grand Forks Central. Individual stats were not available when The Jamestown Sun went to press. Head coach Andy Skunberg and his crew will be back in action on Dec. 9 at Fergus Falls, Minnesota. Tipoff is set for 7:15 p.m.
