MASN to air 20 Orioles spring training games, more than double in recent years

In its first season apart from the Washington Nationals, the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network is making a monumental change to how it covers Orioles spring training.

The Orioles on Thursday released MASN’s broadcast schedule for spring training, with 20 of the ballclub’s 31 games set to air on the network. That number is a significant increase over recent years when MASN had broadcast between four and nine of the Orioles’ spring games.

Twenty spring broadcasts is a record for the Orioles and brings Baltimore in line with most MLB teams which air the majority of their preseason games.

From 2021 to 2025, MASN broadcast only 24 of the Orioles’ 134 spring training games, irking some Baltimore fans eager to watch their team in anticipation for opening day. Part of the reason for the low totals was that MASN aired the same number of spring games for both the Orioles and Nationals. In 2025, that number was 16 — eight for each team. But since the Nationals have opted to end their partnership with MASN, the network is more than doubling its Orioles spring training slate.

The change also comes in David Rubenstein’s second spring training as Orioles owner after he purchased the club and took over for John Angelos, who was also CEO of MASN. Greg Bader now runs the network.

The Nationals on Wednesday announced their plan to partner with Major League Baseball to broadcast the club’s games locally, just the latest franchise to join the league’s growing list of controlled TV rights. Since the network’s founding, the Nationals have held a share of MASN, which was majority-owned by the Orioles and broadcast both teams’ games as a result of a controversial deal negotiated by the late Orioles owner Peter Angelos and former MLB Commissioner Bud Selig when the Nationals moved to Washington. The Orioles and Nationals reached a legal settlement in March, providing the Washington ballclub freedom to choose where and how to broadcast its games.

MASN will kick off its broadcast schedule this spring by airing the Orioles’ Grapefruit League opener at Ed Smith Stadium in St. Petersburg, Florida, versus the New York Yankees on Feb. 20.

The network will also show games against Tampa Bay (Feb. 25), Boston (March 1, March 16, March 20), Toronto (March 8 and March 18) and another against the Yankees (March 15). The Orioles’ game against the Red Sox on March 20 is the Spring Breakout game, which will feature both teams’ best prospects. MASN will also air the first of two exhibitions between the Orioles and Nationals on March 22 at Camden Yards after the teams return north from Florida. Most spring games begin at 1:05 p.m.

After the departure of Geoff Arnold earlier this offseason, the only change to MASN’s broadcast team is the addition of Josh Lewin, who is the longtime play-by-play announcer for UCLA football and men’s basketball. Lewin will serve as a play-by-play announcer on the Orioles Radio Network. It is a reunion for Lewin, who filled in on Orioles radio broadcasts in 1995 and 1996 as well as hosting WBAL’s “Sports Line” show in 1994. Kevin Brown, Brett Hollander, Ben Wagner, Melanie Newman, Jim Palmer, Ben McDonald, Brian Roberts and Rob Long are all returning.
