SARASOTA, Fla. — Orioles reliever Andrew Kittredge is dealing with right shoulder inflammation and has a “low” probability of being ready for opening day, manager Craig Albernaz said Wednesday.
Albernaz said the discomfort surfaced following the right-hander’s most recent outing last Wednesday.
“It crept up his last outing. We want to do right by him and make sure we get that knocked out,” Albernaz said. “It’s a slow progression. We’ll kind of see where it goes. We want to make sure he’s not rushing this. We want to make sure he gets this inflammation knocked out and gets back to being Andrew Kittredge. We want to make sure he’s attacking each day to get that inflammation settled.”
The Orioles host the Twins on opening day on March 26.
Kittredge, whom Baltimore signed before last season then dealt to the Chicago Cubs at the trade deadline, was reacquired during the offseason. The Orioles brought the veteran reliever back with the expectation that he could serve as a trusted high-leverage option in the bullpen.
He finished with a 3.40 ERA over 53 innings in 2025 with Baltimore and Chicago.
Kittredge, 35, is set to earn $9 million this season after the Orioles exercised his club option. He participated in warmups and stretching with teammates Wednesday morning before retreating indoors at the team’s training facility.
