Ethan Salas, Kruz Schoolcraft headline Padres prospects on Spring Breakout roster

San Diego Padres

Catcher Ethan Salas and left-handers Kruz Schoolcraft and Kash Mayfield headline the Padres prospects who’ll represent the team in their Spring Breakout game against the Cubs on March 21.

The game will be carried live from Mesa, Ariz., on both Padres.TV and 97.3 The Fan. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.

Because the 19-year-old Salas missed most of 2025 with a back injury, Schoolcraft, 18, has overtaken the young catcher as the top prospect in the organization as ranked by MLB.com.

Schoolcraft is also the only Padres prospect in MLB.com’s top-100 list. Last year’s first-round pick is ranked No. 88.

Salas is currently in big-league camp but will likely be assigned to minor league camp by the time of the Spring Breakout game.

Mayfield is ranked No. 4 in the organization, behind right-hander Miguel Mendez, who is also still in big-league camp. Other prospects ticketed for the Spring Breakout game who remain in big-league camp include catcher Brendan Durfee, second baseman Marcos Castañon, first baseman Romeo Sanabria (28), right-handers Manuel Castro, Garrett Hawkins (14) and Bradgley Rodriguez (6) and left-hander Jagger Haynes (15).
