The Los Angeles Lakers like the roster they are putting together, but they will have to make a tough decision next summer to keep it.

Austin Reaves, one of the biggest stars in Los Angeles, is expected to ask for up to $35 million per season on his next contract when he hits free agency.

Numerous teams, notably the San Antonio Spurs, will be keeping a close eye on him at that time, according to Anthony Irwin.

“In all likelihood, Reaves will turn down his player option after this season and could command a contract in the ballpark of $30 to $35 million per year…If/when Reaves opts out of his current contract, he’ll be an unrestricted free agent with plenty of interest. League sources say the San Antonio Spurs and other teams are keeping a close eye on Reaves’ free agency,” per Anthony Irwin.

Spurs fans are already imagining a lineup featuring De’Aaron Fox, Victor Wembanyama, Stephon Castle, and Austin Reaves.

But just because the Spurs will try to get Reaves doesn’t mean it’ll happen.

He will be an unrestricted free agent and certainly one of the most exciting in the league.

There will be a slew of competition to acquire Reaves, including from the Lakers.

If they can afford him, LA will work hard to make sure his future is with them.

It’ll be costly, and they might have to cut some other contracts, but the Lakers love Reaves, and they like the idea of him continuing to develop right where he is.

Reaves has also said he’d like to remain with his current team, but there is no doubt he might change his mind if he’s offered a great, enticing offer from a team like the Spurs.
