After a week off, the Texas Longhorns return to the field today to take on the Florida Gators at the Swamp. This will be UT’s first SEC game of the year. Two preseason Heisman hopefuls will be at quarterback for each team. While neither Texas’ Arch Manning or Florida’s DJ Lagway have lived up to expectations, there is still plenty of season left.
Texas enters the game a touchdown favorite over the 1-3 Gators on the road. This starts a tough stretch for Texas. The Horns will play the entire month away from Darrell K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium. While Florida is far from the cream of the crop in the SEC, conference road games are always a challenge.
There is a chance of rain today in Florida. Forecasters are calling for a 40% chance of showers during the game. That, combined with spotty QB play from both teams so far this season, could mean the running backs are going to get a work out.
Texas will be without starting running back CJ Baxter. He has been ruled out of today’s game with a hamstring injury. Tre Wiser is also nursing an injury. He is listed as probable.

Texas vs. Florida Prediction
I’m still not sold that the Texas offense is ready for the SEC. It was a good sign that Arch Manning and company finally were able to pick apart one of the cupcake teams on the schedule. But let’s face it, that should have happened in all of the last three games. UT should look better on offense Saturday.
While the offense could bring the threat of upset into the picture, the Texas defense should shut it down. The Longhorns might have the best defense in the country and a possibly dinged up Lagway might be running for his life.
Final Score: Texas 24, Florida 13
