Because of their history and roster, the Los Angeles Lakers are always aiming to reach the NBA Finals.
However, that is obviously much easier said than done.
This year, the betting markets believe they have a chance of competing for a championship, but it’s not a huge one.
According to Polymarket, the Lakers have an eight percent shot of going to the Finals.
Even with some smart acquisitions and Luka Doncic starting his first full season with the team, the Lakers still have their work cut out for them.

This prediction once again proves just how tough the Western Conference is.
Of course, the Lakers will have to get past the reigning champion Oklahoma City Thunder, but they will also have to outdo the Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets, Golden State Warriors, and more.
Some analysts say the West has never been so difficult.
Plus, the Lakers might have to fight against injuries, such as the current one that will keep LeBron James off the court until at least November.
On top of all that, the team will need to adjust to the additions of new players like Deandre Ayton, Marcus Smart, and more.
Those athletes might ultimately help the Lakers, but it could take some time before their chemistry is cemented and reliable.
The Lakers will have to work on team camaraderie, finding success without James, and more obvious things like defense and turnovers.
On paper, it all seems so simple, but nothing is ever totally easy in the NBA.
Eight percent is obviously better than zero, but Lakers fans want to see their team fight for another title.
If they can’t get it done this season, the chances of James earning a final ring before retirement dwindle even more.
