Broncos vs. Chargers: 5 things Denver fans should know

Arizona Cardinals

Ahead of the Denver Broncos’ Week 3 showdown with the Los Angeles Chargers, we asked Gavino Borquez of Chargers Wire five questions about L.A.’s squad and Sunday’s game. Check out our questions and Borquez’s answers below.

1) The Chargers have had an interesting first stretch of the season, playing all three AFC West opponents in succession. How big of a game is this in the scope of the AFC West battle, which right now, is wide open?

After taking care of business against the Chiefs and Raiders, the Chargers are in a great spot to already win half of their divisional games. As we know, these are games that make a big difference when it comes to determining playoff spots and potentially the division. Los Angeles enters this game as betting favorites to win the AFC West and a win would have the line move again.

2) How has running back Omarion Hampton stepped up in the limited appearances by Najee Harris in the early part of the season?

It hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows for Hampton to start his professional career. Through two games, he’s only averaging 3.1 yards per carry. In Week 1, the Chargers faced a really good run defense in the Chiefs. This past Monday, Najee Harris saw more action than he did in the season opener, so Hampton only had eight carries. Against the Broncos, Hampton is in a great spot to get going on the ground. On the plus side, he has been stout in pass protection.

3) What 2025 free agent has made the biggest impact so far?

After playing for the Steelers, the Chargers went out and signed Donte Jackson, who has been sticky in coverage. Jackson is the only player this season to allow less than 20 yards on 10+ targets.

4) Who is one underrated player everyone should be on the lookout for throughout the season?

Cornerback Tarheeb Still. If you’re picking up on the trend, the Chargers have really good corners, which is going to make it difficult on Bo Nix. Still has two passes defended. And along with being lock-down in coverage, he is good as an open-field tackle. Still has eight

run Stops, which is the most among all cornerbacks in the league.

5) Who wins, and why?

If this game were in Denver, I would probably give the nod to the Broncos. But the Chargers are making their true home opener and are red-hot. The Broncos haven’t been so disciplined up to this point. I think the defense makes it a challenge for Denver to move the ball. As good as the Broncos are against the pass, they haven’t seen someone of Justin Herbert’s talent yet.
