BATON ROUGE – A couple of LSU football injured standout players are trending in the right direction ahead of this weekend’s pivotal rivalry showdown at Ole Miss Saturday (2:30 p.m. CT, ABC) and a couple aren’t.
In the Tigers’ 56-10 victory over Southeastern Louisiana last weekend at home, the team played without starting senior middle linebacker West Weeks and sophomore tight end Trey’Dez Green.
LSU head coach Brian Kelly told reporters Monday during his weekly press conference that one will be back in the lineup while the other is likely to suit up for the Tigers in Oxford.
LSU’S ANNUAL OPPONENTS UNDER NEW SEC SCHEDULE
“We got (Weeks) at 90% so I would say that he is probable for this game leading into it,” Kelly said. “Trey’Dez will play. He was pretty good in pregame (against Southeastern Louisiana) and then we felt like we could hold him back for another week.”
Weeks strained his calf against Florida two weeks ago. Green has actually missed the last two games for LSU with an MCL sprain that he suffered early in the fourth quarter of the Louisiana Tech game.
Against the Lions this last week, starting sophomore running back Caden Durham suffered a sprained ankle in the second quarter. Initially there were fears of a high ankle sprain for Durham but Kelly said Monday that wasn’t the case.
“He was better than we first thought. (He) doesn’t show signs of a high ankle (sprain), so he’s anxious to give it a shot and play. But we’ll monitor him throughout the week.
Kelly said Durham would likely be listed as “day-to-day” as of now.
The notable player that will miss the Ole Miss game is sophomore edge rusher Gabriel Reliford, who exited the game with a shoulder issue and was seen on the sideline wearing a sling on his right shoulder.
“Gabe Reliford has a subluxation of his shoulder, so he is out this week. We will determine whether surgery is necessary or if he can play with it,” Kelly said of Reliford. “We certainly want to respect the fact that in his situation a defensive lineman, you want to make sure he’s healthy in pass rush. If he can’t compete at the level he needs to then we’ll look at the options there in front of us. So surgery could be an option.”
