Wisconsin football upcoming opponent loses starting quarterback to injury

After sitting idle in Week 5, Wisconsin football travels to Ann Arbor, Michigan, for a big-time road matchup against the No. 20-ranked Wolverines on Saturday.

Wisconsin sits at 2-2 through four games, reeling after consecutive losses in Weeks 3 and 4, respectively. A strong showing against Michigan is key to the team redirecting its trajectory. That is especially the case with its gauntlet Big Ten schedule set to heat up in October.

However, while the primary focus is on Saturday’s game vs. Michigan, one of Wisconsin’s upcoming contests could look a bit different after Saturday’s results. That is its Oct. 11 home game vs. Iowa, whose starting quarterback, senior Mark Gronowski, exited its Week 5 loss to Indiana with an injury.

Gronowski was 19-of-25 passing for 144 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception midway through the fourth quarter of the team’s eventual 20-15 defeat. While taking off on a third-down scramble, the former South Dakota State transfer went down with an apparent knee injury. After being listed as questionable, the veteran did not return to the contest.

Iowa‘s narrow loss to the top-ranked Hoosiers dropped the team to 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in Big Ten play.

The Hawkeyes are idle in Week 6 before traveling to Madison, Wisconsin, for their Week 7 contest against the Badgers. Gronowski’s injury status will be made clear as that Oct. 11 matchup nears.
